I'm Joe, a London-based technologist and engineering leader. I've spent the last 20+ years in the tech industry, mostly focused on the user-facing side of software products at places like Google, Citymapper, and MAYA Design, and now at Wave.
A lot of my past work has been aimed at making sure public transit and other non-car transportation options are easy to use and well-represented on our modern maps and phone apps. To that end, I helped to establish the GTFS format for public transit data interchange.
Over the past five years, I've been focusing more on the "people" problems of building sustainable organizations that can ship great products.
That said, I'm still fascinated by the technical challenges of building long-lived, complex software systems, especially ones that require coordination across organizational boundaries.
